Usually, when people doing modification on their cars, doors are the last thing that they want to change. Some of them are thinking that car's doors are irreplaceable, while others are saying that there is no point for converting this parts, thus satisfied with their conventional doors.
Most of the exotic cars in the market come with unusual door designs. Now, with much car's accessories vendors available, it's possible to replace conventional doors from any brands with cool doors such as vertical doors. These are some types of vehicle's doors for reference if you want to change your doors into your personal taste:
1. Gull-wing Door
This is a type of door that are hinged on their uppermost edge, at the roof rather than the side. They are so named because, when opened, the doors evoke the image of a seagull opening its wings.
Cars: Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Suzuki Cara
2. Vertical Door
Also known as scissors door or Lambo door, this is a door that rotate vertically upward, and are hinged at or near the end of the windshield. The design mostly accommodate for parking in tight space.
Cars: Most of Koenigsegg and Lamborghini types, Spyker C8 and C12
3. Suicide Door
This is a car door that is hinged on the edge closer to the rear of the vehicle, known as the trailing edge. These type of door usually found in classic cars.
Cars: Fiat 500 and 600, Ford F-150, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Subaru 360, Vespa 400
4. Butterfly Door
This type is similar to scissor door, but while scissor doors move up, butterfly doors also move outwards, which makes for easier entry/exit at the expense of saving space.
Cars: Ferrari P4/5, McLaren F1 and MP4-12C, Nissan R390 GT1, Toyota Sera
5. Sliding Door
Ever see a hot dog or ice cream vans? They use a type of door that open by sliding horizontally, whereby the door is either mounted on, or suspended from a track. Sliding door allows a large opening for equipment to be loaded and unloaded without obstructing access.
Cars: Chevrolet Van, Daihatsu Hijet, Dodge Caravan, Hyundai Entourage
From all of those types above, my favorite is vertical door. It's exclusive, save spaces, definitely cool, and personalized our rides. As I said before, almost any type of cars now can applied this door, especially because the hinge is also placed in a similar location to a conventional door.
