Saturday night (19/9) in MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, boxing match was held. Chris John of Indonesia retained his title with a unanimous decision win against Houston's Rocky Juarez. Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Juan Manuel Marquez in the main event. The resemblance from this two fights is John and Mayweather Jr. hold their undefeated status. Thus, these two now is in the road of become the real sport legends in boxing.

Chris John Retains WBA Featherweight Title

Indonesia's native hero Chris John got a late scare but retained his World Boxing Association featherweight title with a unanimous 12-round decision over American Rocky Juarez. John was in control of Saturday's fight, despite a swollen left eye, when Juarez connected with a left that had John's knees sagging with less than a minute left in the 12th round.

The judges scores: a ridiculous 114-113 by Glen Hamada and reasonable tallies of 119-109 for Adalaide Byrd and 117-111 for Herb Santos. "It was a very tough fight," John said. "In the last round, I was hurt. My eye was really swelling up. I kept on fighting because of my idol Arturo Gatti. That's what kept me going."

Juarez opened with aggression, but it was John that landed the damaging blows, including a big right and a left hook. The fourth and fifth belonged to John, with crisp boxing and effective punching. Juarez stepped up his attack in the sixth, and by the closing rounds John appeared to be tiring, his punches less precise and powerful. But even when Juarez rocked him in the last, John stayed on his wobbly legs long enough.

John made the 11th defence of the title he won in June 2004, when he dethroned Japan's Osamu Sato.

Juarez (28-5-1, 20 KOs) won a silver medal in 2000 Olympics, making him a significant prospect before his first pro fight. However, he never quite lived up to expectations even though he came very close. He lost two title fights to Marco Antonio Barrera (the first a split decision), one title fight to Marquez and drew and lost to John. Juarez was unfortunate, in a sense. The three opponents who beat him are a boxing legends and the best of their generation and likely Hall of Famers.

Mayweather Comeback Goes Smoothly

Coming back from a 21-month layoff, multi-division world champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KOs) took a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KOs) in a welterweight clash on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bigger, quicker Mayweather dropped Marquez in round two with a left hook and pretty much had his way the entire twelve rounds. Scores were 118-109, 120-107, 119-108.

Tough this bout was not for title, the fight was very interesting to watched. Marquez is tough as nails,” Mayweather said. “He’s a great little man. He was really hard to fight, and he kept taking some unbelievable shots.” Marquez was a 130-pounder just 18 months ago, but the Mexican champion moved up two weight classes to be Mayweather’s hand-picked comeback opponent at the MGM Grand Garden.
